Reed Flute

Other Names: Bamboo Pipe
Type: Wind
Origin: Unknown
In Redwall: Gonff used a reed flute in Mossflower.  The flute (although not necessarily the reed type) is probably the most popular instrument on the ROC.
Appearance: The reed flute is a very simple instrument that looks much like a recorder, except with a softer tone.  It's made out of a sturdy, large reed, typically bamboo, although other strong reeds can be used as well.  They can be very ornately decorated or not decorated at all.
Use: The bamboo pipe is played much like a recorder.  Air is blown softly into the mouthpiece, though not overblown as that can cause an ear-splitting, high-pitched sound that's most unpleasant to hear.  The fingering is not difficult, although attaining chromatics can be.
