Other Names: N/A
Type: String
Origin: 16th century Italy
In Redwall: N/A
Appearance: The harpsichord looks much like a small piano, except that rather than the strings being struck by hammers as in the modern piano, they are plucked by a small plectrum.  There are commonly two strings per key, controlled by a series of hand stops above the keyboard.  Some harpsichords had two sets of keyboards, one above the other, with three sets of strings.
Use: The harpsichord was used by both household and court musicians, typically as accompaniment to vocal music.
