Appearance: The gemshorn is commonly made from the horn of a chamois or ox, though it's likely that it could be made from some other sort of horn. It has a sweet, haunting sound somewhere between that of a recorder and ocarina. The gemshorn is technically a flute, and the only flute in the Middle Ages to have a sharply tapering conical bore.

Use: Shepherds probably used the gemshorn to calm their livestock. Be careful not to confuse the gemshorn with the organ stop of the same name. This flute has a range of one octave.
