Pants

Pants (or trousers) were worn only by men - rarely by women.  They were very common among the Anglo-Saxons, as most of them hated wearing tights.  Two trousers were often worn- the tight, short brec, or short trousers, were worn as undergarments beneath the long trousers, called braccas.  They were often laced up the calf with fabric or leather.  Occasionally, trousers had feet sewn in, rather than openings for the feet, and some came with belt loops.  A piece of cloth or leather tied above the calf and beneath the knee was called a hosa, and many people used this as a place to put knives and other tools.
