Roman Forts

Roman forts can be found in Europe, in Egypt, and elsewhere on the globe.  The Romans were conquerors and economic architects, able to build impressive forts with whatever was available.  In Egypt, they used mud bricks.  In Europe, they used stone and wood.  The forts' architecture differed from place to place and time to time as well: in Kharga Oasis in Egypt, for example, the Romans often used rounded towers at each corner of their fortresses.  In Europe they might use rounded towers or they might not have towers at all.

Typical buildings within the fort's walls were the commanding officer's house, the granaries, the headquarters building, and the barracks.
