Crows
In Redwall

- Appearance: Crows in Redwall look exactly as they do in our
world.
- Typical Personality: Most Redwall crows are fierce fighters
and very territorial. They attack both goodbeasts and vermin. They are savage and speak
somewhat primitively.
Outside Redwall
- Classification: Order: Passiformes; Family: Corvidae; Species:
Corvus brachyrhynchos
- Other Names: Common crow; American crow*
- Appearance: Crows are charcoal-black and about 17-21 inches in
length. They have fan-shaped tails and fly with a slow flapping
motion.
- Life Span:
- Diet: Crows are omnivorous, eating fruit, snail, salamanders,
grain, small birds, mice, eggs, toads, corn, large quantites of insects and
carrion. When near the ocean, they will also eat shellfish. They
eat their weight in food each day.
- Habitat: Nests are built by both male and female at heights of up
to 75 feet, though they will occasionally build on the ground. Each
nest is typically 12 feet in diameter. Crows can nest anywhere, but
typically nest in woodlands, farms, fields, river groves, shores and towns.
- Typical Personality: Crows are social birds. A mated
pair will often have one or more crows to help them throughout the nesting
process. They are exceptionally intelligent.
- Habits: Crows are migratory, and migrate in huge flocks of up to
thousands of birds.
- Life Cycle: 3 to 7 eggs are laid in each clutch and incubated
by both parents for around 18 days. The fledglings leave the nest
after around five weeks.
