- Description:
The shashqa consists of a slightly curved or
straight single-edged blade fitted into an unguarded hilt.
- Use: This was the sword of
the Cossacks. Cossacks took care of their weapons like treasured
possessions. It was even said among them that "He is not a Cossack who has
fouled weapons." The shashqa could
be used for both thrusting and slashing, but like most curved weapons, it was
usually used for slashing. It was often used by mounted soldiers.
