Longbow
- In Redwall: Often used by otters; also other typically stronger
species
- Origin: England
- Time Period: 14th century
- Description: A 5 to 6 foot
long bow, as tall or slightly taller than the wielder. Typically made
of yew, with a three-foot-long arrow. The effective range of the
longbow was 180 - 250 yards, and the draw was somewhere between 80 - 110
pounds. An expert yeoman could shoot 10 to 12 arrows a minute.
- Use: The longbow could punch through even armor. Yeomen were
trained from when they were very young solely for the longbow. The
standard bow was rarely used, except by people not strong enough nor
experienced enough for the longbow, as it could not compete with the larger
bow.
