- Description:
This sword often had foreign blades which were slightly curved and
single-edged; handle, pommel, and ends of the quillions are carved in the form
of monsters' heads; entire hilt is often made of silver or gold and inlaid
with jewels. It had a light, single-edged, very
slightly back-curved blade.
- Use: The
kastane was decorative and ceremonial, but also frequently used in battle.
It was primarily a slashing weapon.
