The quillon width is around 12 inches in width and the
blade length is about 17 inches long. The overall length is typically 24
inches. The blade is tapered on both sides and is only sharp on one side.
- Use: The main gauche was used in
the left hand as a parrying dagger along with a rapier in the right hand
while fencing or dueling. "Main gauche" means "left
hand."
