Bastard Sword
- Other Names: Hand-and-a-half sword
- In Redwall: The Sword of Martin (aka Ratdeath) is a
bastard sword.
- Time Period: Late 14th century; 15th century
- Origin: Europe
- Description: Long,
over-the-shoulder, double-edged sword with a smaller hilt that could be wielded in one or two
hands. It's called a "bastard sword" because in size, it
falls between the broadsword and the two-hand sword, thus not having a
family of its own. It's typically around 51 inches long.
- Use: Effective
for cutting through tougher armors. It could be used for thrusting, but most
wielders swung it like a bat.
